housing market is a troubling place

The housing market is a troubling place at the moment. With house prices being so high before the recession hit, many people struggled to find a home their could afford. Now that we are in the recession, house prices have been falling, however, it's now harder than ever to get a mortgage for the property you could now afford.

This changing market has resulted in many people choosing to rent property rather than buying new. It's not just people looking to live in the property that want to rent. Many property investors are buying property with the idea of getting a buy to let mortgage as these tend to be easier to get.

There are actually a number of advantages of renting property over buying. The main one would be that finding a property to rent is easier because there is a wider range compared to houses to buy. The monthly payments for rental property are generally lower than that of a mortgage. Tenants also have the advantage of not having to pay for any property maintenance that may be required. This responsibility normally lies with the landlord.

One problem that is often found in many older property is mold. Even if you don't have mold in your home, if you live in a rented flat, it could be someone else's property that is causing the problems. Because mold can cause serious health issues, you are allowed to request a mold inspection of the property, even if you see no visible signs of mold in your home. If no work is being done to resolve the mold problem, you have the right to stop paying your rent and pay for the work yourself.

Of coures there are appliances such as dehumidifiers that would reduce the change of getting mold in your property. A dehumidifier is used to reduce the humidity in your home to the safe levels which lies between 40%-60%. Buying such a simple piece of equipment will help to reduce humidity and mold within your home.

A simple weather station can't tell you how high the humidity is within your home, you'll need a thermohygrometer to accurately measure the levels of humidity.
