Usual Transport Gift

If, like me, you were looking for something slightly unusual as a gift this year, and wanted to avoid the endless trolleying around M&S, then I might well have saved you a considerable amount of shoe leather.

Whilst doing a routine online search for buddha statues, I stumbled upon a site packed with products that called out to me to investigate further. I noticed the reference to 'ethical' and 'clear conscience shopping', which appealed to me. Great! It was clear to me that here was a company who actually cared about where their products were coming from - unlike some I could mention. I totally committed to giving the disadvantaged every opportunity to succeed.

The sound of the 'old fashioned' phones on a mobile immediately trasports me back to a bygone era of 'black and white'. I can't help thinking 'phoney'- but in a way I like the sound that they make. it conjures up a sense of nostalgia and security. This is ironic, of course, as its mass appeal is to a generation weaned on everything 'high tech' and digital.

Fashion, music and classic style icons have always inspired new generations who enjoy adding their own 'spin' to retro subjects. The imagination of contemporary designers are often sparked by products, music and fashion influenced by bygone eras. Retro telephones are no exception to the rule. For any home appreciating style and fashion, these are 'must have' items.

Perhaps my favourite retro phone is the Dreyfuss 500 black retro telephone. This phone was introduced and designed in 1949 by Henry Dreyfuss, and became one of the most popular phones in the US. You can buy it black, white or chrome, and it opporates using a standard plug socket. The one down side is if you like to wander from room to room chatting on the phone - don't, otherwise you could end up with a large hole in the wall!

Other retro items that caught my attention were their range of hot water bottles. These objects used to be monotonous coloured and seen once a year in the cold snap. You need to take a look at these great styles, shapes and colours - they are inspirational. Brilliant fun! I think that the range of designs on offer would suit anyone in my family. The Zebra style is one of my favourites, as it has a great pattern and is made to recycle in future. Its good also when you realize that it is still summer time, and a large chunk of Christmas shopping has been eradicated.
