Two of the most popular ways to heat your home

Two of the most popular ways to heat your home are gas and oil. There are millions of homes across the world using heating oil as the fuel to heat their homes. Heating oil comes from crude oil normally but some heating oil these days actually comes from biofuels. There are three main types of petroleum heating oil which are used, kerosene, diesel and a combination of distillate fuel and residual fuel. Although kerosene has the least impurities, this fact makes it the most expensive. The majority of homes will use diesel even though it has more impurities because it is more affordable.

The cost of heating oil goes up and down and is usually directly linked to the changing prices of global crude oil. However the price of heating oil can be affected by other factors too. If weather temperatures drop, there can be an increased demand for oil which can help to send prices soaring. The wise people however, will fill their oil tanks up during the summer months when the prices are generally lower. That way there is no need to pay the high prices when the cold weather kicks in. But those who wanted to really take advantage of the lower prices could think about installing another tank so that they could have two tank fulls of cheaper priced oil before the higher prices appear.

Natural gas is another fuel that is used as an alternative to heating oil. The fact that natural gas is pumped directly into the home gives it a distinct advantage over oil. You do not have to contact your heating company to get it delivered as you do with oil. But because gas prices have been increasing all the time, many people are reluctant to move away from oil as a form of heating. Natural gas is also not available everywhere and many homes in rural areas need oil to heat their homes.

Heating ones home in the cold months of winter can cost a fair packet. Fuel such as electricity and gas show no signs of coming down in price. Clever people are switching to heating oil as a fuel though. When they do they always need their tanks filled with Boilerjuice to make sure they don't run dry in the cold weather.
